1 – All I Want for Christmas is You (Mariah Carey)

It wouldn’t be Christmas without Mariah, so there’s no wonder she claims the top spot for the most popular Christmas song on Spotify. Despite various versions of the song, the OG track proves to be the most loved. In 2018, this song was played an impressive 10.82 million times on Christmas day, making it the most-played tune ever on the streaming platform. A year later, it peaked again with over 12 million streams. No matter what you’re getting ready for, make sure this is the first tune on your playlist.

2 – Christmas Tree (V)

Next up, it’s an intimate solo song released by V, a singer known for being in the South Korean boy band BTS. Though different to your typical Christmas banger, many still love it as it’s the second most popular tune to be added across festive playlists. The song was recorded for the soundtrack of Our Beloved Summer and has topped various Billboard charts.

3 – It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year (Andy Williams)

We couldn’t agree more! With countless celebrations that bring together friends and family from across the country, there truly is no better feeling than the one you get at Christmas. Originally written in 1963 by Edward Pola and George Wyle, this was Andy’s first-ever Christmas song, which is loved by so many to this day.

4 – Santa Tell Me (Ariana Grande)

At Foxy Locks, we appreciate Ariana for her famous slicked-back high pony and beautiful singing voice. Santa Tell Me is Ariana’s second holiday release, which debuted in November 2014. Nearly 10 years later, it’s now a Christmas classic that will get you in the festive mood.

5 – It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas (Michael Bublé)

It wouldn’t be the same holiday season without hearing Bublé’s soft, charming voice through our speakers. Christmas was the first festive album released by the Canadian singer, taking to shelves back in 2011. It is Buble’s most successful album, with more than 12 million copies sold worldwide. The first track on the CD is It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas, which probably helps make it one of his most popular songs.

6 – Last Christmas (Wham)

Although released in 1984, it was New Year’s Day 2021 when Last Christmas finally reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. It also topped charts across various other countries, such as Denmark, Germany, Slovenia and Sweden. 7 – Sleigh Ride (The Ronettes)

The Ronettes covered Sleigh Ride in 1963 for Phil Spector’s A Christmas Gift for You. The song is instantly recognisable, thanks to its jingly intro that immediately gets you in the mood for dancing. 8 – Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow! (Dean Martin)

Although the lyrics talk about snow, Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne wrote the song in July 1945 during a California heatwave. There is no mention of Christmas throughout the song, but that has yet to stop it from becoming one of the most popular Christmas songs to be played during the festive period. Many artists, including Bing Crosby and Rod Stewart, have also covered this song, but it’s the original track many of us love playing.

9 – Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (Frank Sinatra)

Sinatra’s Italian voice is immediately recognised when he sings the intro, ‘have yourself a merry little Christmas’. Judy Garland first sang this song on the soundtrack to Meet Me In St. Louis, with Sinatra covering it in 1948. Nine years later, he rerecorded the song, transforming it into the version we know and love today.

10 – The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas To You) (Nat King Cole)

This classic by Nat King Cole comes in at number 10 and completes our playlist. Written in 1945 by Robert Wells and Mel Tormé, it’s reported that this is another song written during a warm and sunny July. The song perfectly symbolises everything you may get up to on Christmas day, from roasting chestnuts on an open fire to hearing yuletide carols sung by a choir.
