WHAT TO KNOW WHEN SWIMMING WITH YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS ON

WHAT TO KNOW WHEN SWIMMING WITH YOUR HAIR EXTENSIONS ON

Reading Time: 2 mins

Summer is just around the corner, and with it comes a slew of swimming parties to beat the heat. Unfortunately, we all know that the sun, saltwater, and chlorine don’t mix well for your locks, but it can be just as damaging to your hair extensions too! While you plan on chasing waves by the beach, remember that all the water exposure can leave your mane in a tangled mess.

Saltwater and chlorine can have damaging effects on your hair and extensions, but the problem really lies in their impact on the extensions’ bond or tape. Clip-in hair extensions fair better when you expose them to water, but other bonded extensions can lose their integrity after taking it for a refreshing dip.

Fortunately, there are ways to don a summer look without compromising your glamorous locks.

Tip #1: Keep Your Hair Out of the Water as Much as Possible

You can freely head down to the beach with your hair extensions, giving you an IG-worthy appearance, but the only way to protect the bonds is to keep them out of the water as much as possible.

You can easily do so by tying your hair and protecting them using a swimming cap, but if you want to look more stylish, hiding the tape or bonds in a secure braid can make for a fashionable statement!

Tip #2: Dry Your Extensions Immediately After Swimming

Even if you keep your hair up, your hair can still get wet after all the sun-kissed activities. After heading out of the ocean or pool, be sure to untie your hair and brush the tangles away to keep your extensions from developing any unsightly mats. This will prevent the water from damaging the extensions and keep the bonds secure!

Tip #3: Wash the Extensions with Fresh Water

If you want to go deep diving and play around with underwater activities, you can still minimise the damages to your hair extensions by washing them with regular water after. Both your hair and extensions will quickly absorb either chlorine or saltwater, so wetting them with fresh water should prevent your tresses from taking them in.

The Bottom Line: Giving Your Hair Extensions the Right TLC During Summer

Heading out for some summer-friendly activities doesn’t have to be a hassle for your hair, but it does take some precautionary steps to ensure your extensions can come out of your fun-filled day in good shape.
